The Hoffmann lab is part of the LIFE - Leipzig Research Center for Civilization Diseases research complex. As the name implies, we try to link environmental pollution, lifestyle and individual genetic disposition to diseases of civilization, like diabetes, depression, dementia, allergies, and many more.
We use latest bioinformatics and statistical methods to develop applications and methods to analyse the huge amount of data that accrue by High Throughput Sequencing. Our main attention here lies on the transcriptomics world. Starting from mapping the short RNA reads to reference genomes via detecting loci with cummultive read hits, ending with the analysis of known non-coding RNAs, we design a broad range of approaches, simplifying the work with deep sequencing data.
Furthermore, we work on algorithms to find so far unknown small RNA families or detecting splice sites, using High Throughput data of small RNAs.
